Three brands dominate the RV windshield cover market: ADCO, Camco, and FIT Protection. ADCO and Camco are the legacy mass-market players (you'll find them at Camping World, Amazon, RV-supply stores). FIT Protection is the newer custom-fit player using a patented magnetic mount system.
This is an honest comparison from the perspective of someone who's repaired damage caused by every one of these systems over the last decade.
TL;DR
| Brand | Mount System | Fit | Price (Class A) | Lifespan | Damage Risk |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Camco | Suction cups + elastic | Universal sizes | $80–$160 | 1–2 yrs | Suction marks |
| ADCO | Straps + bungees | Class-specific generic | $120–$220 | 2–3 yrs | Strap rub, paint chip |
| FIT Protection | Inside-glass magnets | Custom per model | $349–$499 | 7+ yrs | None |
Camco RV windshield covers
Camco is the entry-level brand. You'll see them at $80–$160 depending on size, sold widely on Amazon and at Camping World.
Mount system: plastic suction cups (typically 6–8 cups) press against the OUTSIDE of the windshield. Elastic cords on the inside attach to the dash or A-pillar.
Strengths: - Cheap entry point if you're price-sensitive - Easy to find at any RV supply store - Acceptable UV blocking (rated ~80–85%)
Weaknesses: - Suction cups release above 95°F glass temperature (every summer day) - Tinted windshields don't hold suction reliably - Generic universal sizing — fits "OK" on most rigs, perfectly on none - Elastic stretches and loses tension within 12 months - Cups leave visible pressure marks at sunrise
Best for: Class B van conversions, smaller travel trailers used 2–3 weekends a year.
ADCO RV windshield covers
ADCO is the mid-tier brand. $120–$220 depending on Class A vs Class C vs travel trailer.
Mount system: strap and bungee combination. Straps loop around wiper arms or hood release, bungees stretch across the bottom edge to the dash trim.
Strengths: - Better UV blocking than Camco (~90–93%) - Class-specific sizing (Class A, Class C, Travel Trailer) so fit is closer than universal - Available for most major rig classes
Weaknesses: - Straps wear through wiper arm housings in 2–3 seasons - Hook ends scratch paint at attachment points - Bungees lose elasticity in cold weather; cover sags - "Class-specific" still doesn't fit specific models well — a Tiffin Allegro and a Newmar Dutch Star are both Class A, but they have different windshield geometries - Rain pools at the bottom edge where bungees pull down
Best for: mid-tier Class C motorhomes that don't have model-specific covers available, owners who upgrade every 2–3 years.
FIT Protection RV windshield covers
FIT is the premium custom-fit player. $349–$499 depending on rig class.
Mount system: patented inside-glass magnetic placement. Strong neodymium magnets sit on the inside of the glass; matching magnets sewn into the cover binding hold through magnetic flux. Quick-release suction tool for placement and removal.
Strengths: - Custom-cut for your specific year/make/model (60+ RV models, 26 UTV platforms) - 99.9% UV-A and UV-B blocking (marine-grade vinyl) - Zero contact with paint, trim, or wiper arms — no abrasion damage - Holds in 70+ mph winds with full magnet contact - 30-second on/off after first install - 1-year warranty on materials and mount system - Made in USA (Texas)
Weaknesses: - 3× the price of an entry-level Camco - Lead time 5–7 days for catalog models, 7–14 days for custom builds (vs. immediate availability of mass-market) - Magnets need to be placed on inside-glass once during first install (10-minute setup)
Best for: any motorhome over $50,000, any rig you plan to keep 5+ years, owners who want zero damage to their rig from the cover itself.
3-year ownership cost (Class A)
| Cost item | Camco | ADCO | FIT |
|---|---|---|---|
| Initial purchase | $130 | $180 | $429 |
| Year 1 replacement (cover failure) | $130 | $0 | $0 |
| Year 2 replacement | $130 | $180 | $0 |
| Year 3 replacement | $130 | $0 | $0 |
| Wiper arm repair (strap wear) | $0 | $90 | $0 |
| Paint touch-up (strap rub / suction marks) | $0 | $250 | $0 |
| Re-tinting (UV bleed-through gap) | $0 | $400 | $0 |
| 3-year total | $520 | $1,100 | $429 |
FIT comes out cheapest over a 3-year window despite the higher up-front. The math gets even more favorable over 5–7 years because FIT covers typically last that long; Camco and ADCO require replacement multiple times in the same window.
Where each brand wins
Camco wins if: - Your rig is worth less than $30,000 - You only camp 2–3 weekends a year - You'll upgrade the rig within 18 months
ADCO wins if: - You want better-than-universal fit but don't want custom - Your model isn't in any custom maker's catalog - You replace covers every 2–3 years and don't mind the strap wear
FIT wins if: - Your rig is worth over $50,000 - You're keeping the rig 5+ years - You park in sun for any meaningful time - You don't want ANY contact damage to paint, trim, or wipers - You want a US-built, US-supported product with a real warranty
Why we don't sell strap covers (or universal sizes)
We tried both in 2020. The return rate on universal covers was 14% (didn't fit). The return rate on strap covers was 22% (caused damage). We pulled both lines and went all-custom-magnetic in 2021. The return rate dropped to under 2%.
The custom-fit, magnetic-mount approach is more expensive to build but it's the only way to deliver a cover that doesn't damage what you're trying to protect.
What to ask before you buy ANY brand
- Does the cover use a custom CAD pattern for my model, or a generic class size?
- What attaches to my rig — straps, suctions, or magnets — and where do they make contact?
- What's the UV blocking percentage, third-party tested?
- What's the warranty length and does it cover damage from the mount system?
- Where is it manufactured and where is customer support based?
Camco answers: generic / suctions / 80% / 1 year / China + US support. ADCO answers: class-specific / straps / 90% / 1 year / US-made. FIT answers: custom CAD per model / magnets (no contact) / 99.9% / 1 year + lifetime support / Made in Texas.

FAQ
Is ADCO better than Camco for RV windshield covers? ADCO is generally better than Camco — better UV blocking (~90% vs ~80%), better sizing (class-specific vs universal), and more durable construction. ADCO costs roughly 50% more than Camco. Both still use mount systems (straps + bungees, suction cups) that have the wear issues described above.
Are FIT Protection covers worth 3× the price of ADCO? For any motorhome over $50,000, yes. Over a 3-year ownership window, FIT comes out cheapest because it doesn't need replacement and doesn't damage the rig. For a sub-$30,000 travel trailer used occasionally, ADCO or Camco may make more sense.
Do FIT covers have the same UV blocking as ADCO and Camco? FIT covers block 99.9% of UV-A and UV-B (marine-grade vinyl, third-party tested). ADCO blocks ~90%. Camco blocks ~80%. The difference matters most for dashboard preservation — 99.9% blocking prevents damage entirely; 80% blocking only delays it.
Can I install an ADCO or Camco cover myself? Both can be installed solo, but expect 8–15 minutes for ADCO (strap loops + bungee tension) and 5–10 minutes for Camco (suction cup pressing). FIT installs in 3 minutes the first time and 30 seconds after.
What's the lifespan of each cover brand? Camco: 12–24 months before suction failure or fabric UV degradation. ADCO: 24–36 months before strap wear or bungee failure. FIT: 5–8 years for the fabric, indefinitely for the magnets and binding.
Do any of these brands offer custom-fit for unusual RV models? FIT Protection custom-builds for any RV model not already in the catalog (uses your VIN + measurements, ships in 7–14 days, +$100–$200 over catalog). ADCO and Camco only sell from their pre-set class sizes.
