The most expensive window on your rig is the one you tow straight into the weather.
Every mile you tow, the front cap window takes rocks, grit and bug strike at highway speed — and on most rigs it's the one piece of glass a dealer can't just swap off the shelf.

There's a moment most RV owners have had: you pull into the site after a long haul, walk around the front of the rig, and the front window has a fresh star in it — or worse, a fine haze across the whole lower half that wasn't there last season.
It's not bad luck. The front cap window on a travel trailer or fifth wheel is a flat, nearly vertical target punching into the wind at 65 mph, directly behind whatever the truck ahead of you is kicking up. Motorhome windshields have it even rougher — they're bigger, more raked, and far more expensive.
A rock chip in a house window is an annoyance. A rock chip in an RV front cap window is a special-order part, a dealer appointment, and weeks off the road.
Why RV glass is a different problem
Automotive glass is a commodity — any shop in town can get it. RV front glass usually isn't. It's sized to the cap, often tinted or shaded to match, and frequently model-and-year specific. Which means:
- It's ordered, not stocked. You're waiting on the manufacturer, not a local warehouse.
- Labor isn't trivial. Large panes in a fiberglass cap aren't a 30-minute job.
- It strands the rig. A cracked front window during the season is a cancelled trip, not a deductible.
And the slow damage is arguably worse than a chip. Bug acid and grit etch the surface a little on every trip. By season three you're looking through a window that's permanently cloudy in exactly the spot you look through most.
What people try first
- A tarp and bungees. It flaps at speed, and flapping is abrasion — you've built a sander and pointed it at your window.
- Cardboard and tape. Works until the first rain, then the tape adhesive bakes onto the fiberglass.
- A towel under the shade. Protects nothing from the outside, which is where the rocks are.
They all share one flaw: nothing is mechanically attached, so everything moves — and movement against grit is how glass gets etched in the first place.
How a FIT cover is built
A FIT RV cover is cut to one specific front window — your brand, model, year and floorplan — and it anchors to the cap instead of resting on it.
Hybrid Mag + LOXX®
- N52 magnetic alignment grid — roughly 850 lb of combined pull, so the cover finds its own position the moment you bring it near the cap
- LOXX® mechanical fasteners at the load-bearing points, holding where wind load is highest
- LOXX has fastened military, aerospace and marine hardware for roughly a century. FIT is its exclusive North American cover partner
- In our own hold testing, one fastener carries a 300 lb load
On UTVs we ask customers to choose between magnetic and all-mechanical retention. On RVs there's no choice to make — every RV cover ships hybrid, because a surface that large sees too much wind load to leave to magnets alone.
Installation is a one-time job. Most owners report around 30 minutes, best done in the shade so the bonding agent cures properly. After that the cover goes on and off in seconds.

The magnets are super, crazy strong. Initial installation took about 30 minutes, but that was a one time installment. Now it goes on and off with ease and only takes seconds. Well worth the price of the cover as it's a total peace of mind!
Easy to install and perfect fit. Our first trip was through the Columbia River Gorge in high winds and heavy rain. Towing the trailer sucked, but the window cover worked great.
After opening the box, I was pleasantly surprised to see the quality of the cover… A week later we took a 500 mile trip. It stayed on the whole trip, wind didn't affect it. I did take it off while parked, then re-installed — was real easy. It passed my test.
Fantastic product. Easy install, perfect protection. Stays on through all environmental conditions we've thrown at it.
Used for the first time. Easy to install. One trip so far. Stayed in place on a windy drive. Easy to fold and store when not in use.
Love it! Fits just right and it's very easy to remove and put back on.

Common questions
Do you make one for my rig?+
We build for Forest River, Coachmen, Jayco, Keystone, Palomino, Venture, Lance, Brinkley, Grand Design, Winnebago, Dutchmen, Crossroads and more — cut by brand, model, year and floorplan.
If your exact rig isn't listed, the custom-cut option covers anything with a front window: you send measurements, we cut to them, same 5-day build and the same free kit.
How hard is the install on a big fifth wheel?+
The one-time fastener install takes most owners around 30 minutes. On larger rigs a second set of hands helps, and tight spaces at the top of the cap behind an existing shade are the fiddliest part — several owners have told us exactly that.
Step-by-step video and instructions are on the install guide.
Will it stay on at highway speed?+
Every RV cover is hybrid Mag + LOXX specifically because of highway wind load — the LOXX fasteners carry the load at the anchor points rather than relying on magnetic pull. Owners in the reviews above report 500- and 700-mile tows without movement.
What if it doesn't fit right?+
