Two Approaches to RV Windshield Protection
When it comes to protecting your RV windshield during towing or storage, you have two main options: magnetic covers and strap-on covers. They solve the same problem, but the execution is completely different.
Installation Speed
Magnetic covers: Unfold, align with the windshield, and the magnets snap into place. Total time: 5–15 minutes for a full-size RV, under 30 seconds for a UTV. No tools required.
Strap-on covers: Thread straps through door jambs, over mirrors, or under wipers. Tighten buckles. Adjust for tension. Total time: 15–30 minutes, and you'll need a second person for large RVs.
Winner: Magnetic. It's not close.
Wind Resistance at Highway Speed
Magnetic covers: N52 neodymium magnets with 250 lb pull force create a continuous perimeter seal. The cover doesn't flutter, lift, or shift at 80+ mph because the magnetic force increases as the cover presses against the glass.
Strap-on covers: Straps loosen over time from vibration and wind. The cover flutters at the edges, which causes abrasion against the glass it's supposed to protect. Many owners report straps coming loose during highway towing.
Winner: Magnetic. Magnets don't loosen. Straps do.
Scratch Risk
Magnetic covers: No straps touching the glass surface. The magnetic perimeter holds the cover off the glass at the edges, preventing contact wear.
Strap-on covers: Straps run across the glass or hook onto wipers, creating contact points that can scratch or stress the glass over time.
Winner: Magnetic.
Fitment
Magnetic covers: Custom-cut for your specific vehicle model. FIT Protection covers are precision-fabricated for each RV or UTV, ensuring full edge-to-edge coverage.
Strap-on covers: Most are universal fit — one size for a range of vehicles. This means gaps at the corners and edges where debris can still reach the glass.
Winner: Magnetic (custom-fit).
The Verdict
Magnetic covers win on every metric that matters: speed, security, scratch prevention, and fitment. The only advantage of strap-on covers is price — they're cheaper because they're generic. But a cover that doesn't stay on or leaves gaps isn't actually protecting anything.
FIT Protection's magnetic covers use N52 neodymium magnets with 250 lb pull force, marine-grade UV-stabilized vinyl, and custom vehicle-specific fabrication. They're the only patent-backed magnetic windshield cover on the market.
